In its heyday in the 30s, this lively area had the largest population of Filipinos outside of the Philippines. Last April 2nd - FYP - Community Service committee joined the Easter Seals of Houston in a center-based Respite Service, Family Day Out which provides respite care to families of children with all types of disabilities. The children benefited from arts and crafts, games, and playground activities and receive one-to-one assistance from volunteers. E-Cycle Drive FYPers volunteer helped out with collection of donated electronics for "e-cycling" with the Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral last April 24th. FYP Cultural Ambassador's first workshop was held last March 18th where they learned the history, movements, and music of traditional Filipino dances. A second workshop held on April 23rd where the focus was on learning the Pandanggo sa ilaw and Oasioas dances. FYP Cultural Ambassadors perform at the Houston Rockets Toyota Center Last April 7th - FYPers enjoyed the Filipino Heritage Night at the Rockets game by having our very own FYP Cultural Ambassadors perform various Filipino cultural dances.They sang "Isang Mundo Isang Awit," danced a medley of Tinikling, Sayaw sa bangko and Gaway - gaway.
